Very convenient way of getting pictures into the iPad.
Several years ago I paid $600 for an Epson picture storage/viewer. It was terribly slow - maybe 20 minutes to download the contents of a memory card to the unit. The thought of being able to store and view pictures while I'm on a trip with the iPad is very attractive.
I don't have an iPad yet and only saw one at Best Buy last week, I'm very exciting about the iPad as an image viewer and temporary storage tool. I would love to see a card reader or usb port in the iPad with which to transfer images.

Just curious, what would you carry on the SD card?
