At risk of starting an argument, I think the bottom line, as you've already experienced, is that it takes some work to get the iPad to be a useful work tool.
It is possible to move files back and forth and work on them, but IMHO it's far less intuitive than a Mac or even a netbook. Some love it for that, but I'm sure not one of them. Give me a laptop any day.
