That is recommended by Apple for the first 5 or so charges, I assume it still is. I don't think that helps the battery, I think it helps the calibration so that the battery % is representative of the true state of the battery

I put my Apple Watch and iPad on the charger every night, but I was under the impression that I should let my iPhone 7+ go down as far as possible before charging.
