I was lucky. When the iPhone first came out I was on a prepaid Motorola razor and within a month of the iPhone coming out I flipped open my razr and the screen Flew the room. So I took that opportunity to tell my wife I need a new phone and I'm buying an iPhone

When AT&T — the only carrier on the iPhone at the time — finally covered the are where I live well, I had been carrying a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) around for 12 years, and both a PDA and a separate cellphone for perhaps 6 or 7.
Getting an iPhone was almost a no-brainer, since it eliminated one of the objects I carried/could drop or lose, and was easier to use as a cellphone, and better as a PDA.
