Don't know about Verizon, but ATT gives keeps you current with how much data you're using. A nice little bar graph in their app. And they mail you if you're about to hit the limit.

At 128 or even 256Kbps, I agree, music is unlikely to add up to 10GB, but when I was using Tidal, it was wise to pre-download, since a single album could cost the better part of a GB.
