I think you need an Apple TV to mirror your iPad screen to your TV, but you might call Apple Support at 1-800-275-2273 to ask them since your iPad is a new device.

We have a relatively new Samsung LED Smart TV, which allows me to choose a compatible device, from which I can do "screen mirroring" (... send whatever is on the iPad screen, to the TV).
