Re: [iPad] Apple to wind back the clock to '09 with focus on quality, not features, in next OS X | Computerworld

Wifi or BT with Apple isn't proprietary, it is the functions that Apple allows to be used, that they decide if it is to be allowed. They disallow some functions, its not a wifi or BT issue. You can include USB. Its the functions not the wireless attribute

Apple insists on adding proprietary eccentricities in its hardware as well as software. Neither wifi nor Bluetooth of Apple devices will work with any other mobile device. Similarly the connector is also a non standard.
Going remains good as long as it succeeds but it may collapse if US Standards enforcement takes action.

AirPlay depends on wifi.  It must work with almost all wifi, or it's of questionable value.  Very few users, I'd bet, have nothing but Apple hardware in their houses.  Therein lies the problem, I suppose.  Apple engineers may simply have bitten off more than they can chew.  It may be that there are more variables than anyone could deal with successfully.

iHome and Bowers & Wilkins seem to have quietly tiptoed away from AirPlay.

I've read some that have Airplay problems, most recently on my telco's new streaming service, Lightbox. But, many say its great. I put Airplay problems down to wifi problems. Not Apple wifi, but general wifi. Wifi in general is fraught with potential issues
