Re: [iPad] Apple Maps app to relaunch with travel directions to take on Google | Daily Mail Online

I live in the laid-back suburban Midwest, which is by no stretch of anyone's imagination a happening place.  I'm not sure what a happening place looks and feels like.  It sounds unpleasant.

I grew up a west coast gal and noticed my whole life that people think the east coast is the happening place, the place where west coast people wished they lived. The west coast could be that also if we made it such.

I have taken at least three trips up the east coast to visit various family members since Apple Maps came out and used the trips to compare Google Maps, Garmin Maps and Apple Maps and frequently Apple came out on top. It was way easier to choose alternative routes among other things. I have ended up using the Garmin though because once I own the unit I don't have to pay for data time. Oddly since Apple is on the west coast it seems that areas of the west were where the Apple Maps initially fell down.

Just another view. Mary Davidson

I seem to recall that Google pulled out of that deal, leaving Apple hanging, but why then didn't Apple just buy one of the already successful GPS companies, instead of trying - badly, as it turned out - to create a GPS mapping company from scratch? Well, I suppose somebody convinced them it could be done on the cheap. I suppose those people no longer work for Apple.
