I was able to drag a picture from iPhoto to the iPhone case setup using my computer, but not using my iPad.  Once you drag the picture to the designated area, double click it to put it on the case style you've selected.  I didn't proceed past that point because I was not planning to purchase.  I don't use Instagram.
