I like this, but was looking at iPhone cases to customize, and you have to have an instagram account. I think that's a bit lame. I have one, but don't want to use that to upload pics. Cute idea though!

It would seem so as there is a page on the Apple Store devoted to the various bands for individual purchase.  My guess is that switching them is what Apple is hoping for from a "fashion" standpoint since the bands are not cheap.  I'll bet there will be scads of them available from third parties in short order if the watch sells well.  This one reminded me of you:
