Re: [iPad] OT: the windows operating system

Files could be 1GB to 4GB, often about 2GB.

ITs Apples SMB2. Ive read a lot of this long standing issue. Apples SMB2 is either non compliant, or its compliant but with other extras that cause this issue.. Turn off SMB2 to go to CIFS doesn't work, Command line to switch to SMB1 doesnt work. Only recently someone mentioned turning off Preview. What I did then was copy the file, select another so that preview isn't on with my file and that helped a lot. All 4 or 5 files since were fine, albeit one failed yesterday, and that was a copy from my network drive to my rMBP USB stick. So preview seems a big part of it

The odd thing is, I can copy a file *this issue is only from network based hard drives) and its fine, next one is fine then it fails (As  file is in use) Another day it fails over and over than it works. The strange issue is that if you copy you should never get a file in use error. Only if you move.

In Windows you never get these issues, or wifi issues which seem to pop up regularly when updates happen, or USB issues, which I read of occasionally. These are old tech, they just work in Windows (leaving time to fix other stuff!!! :-)   )

I never had that but I stopped copying large files in 2005. I copied them religiously from Mac OS 8-OSX 10.4 as part of the publishing deal. What seemed choke like to me what large numbers of files with the icon preview turned on. But it's been almost ten years since I was messing wit that. Maybe your issue is fixable. We had a wired network but I would think some of the same lessons still apply. And large is relative. I don't think I had one gig files back then. Is it wifi? 22gb files?

LOL, yes you will, although the grumbles won't!  Having said that I grumble about OS X from time to time, mainly when in Finder, or attempting to copy files over my network which often fail due to OS X. Known issue for years apparently, grumble.

So for the first time in my life I am having to use windows. Really use it. I mean I've bopped on a library computer and used a browser before. But that's nothing. For the first time since 1995 I'm having to work for someone else and unlike then they are using windows. In fact the two other times I have worked for another company they have used Macintosh. And then I created a publishing company that used Macintosh. So this stuff is new. Brand new. And I gotta say that I am less than impressed. It's about as visually appealing as the Mac classic as far as the GUI (im using windows 7) so that's off putting. And every freaking thing Looks like the Mac Finder, err Windows Explorer. At a glance there is no difference between an app or internet explorer or windows explorer. How confusing. How stupid. Very stupid. Well okay Microsoft Office looks different. The windows look unique a little and the task bar has a different tab. But holy hell man the rest is just a mess of blah. Worse yet it seems that everyone works in full screen mode and somehow relies upon the task bar to navigate!!! And everything has tabs! I'm bloodying my head in frustration. And shaking my head in disgust. In some cases I've been using computers for almost fifteen years longer than the trainees next to me have been alive and I am floundering!! Bill Gates needs to be drawn and quartered for this atrocity. If this is good enough I now understand some things about modern human nature. I understand how the divorce rate is so high. "Oh. She's good enough. "*head desk* and how people survive on packages and processed foods "oh. That bland flavorless garbage that barely passes as food will do, it's good enough" *face palm* and people just put up with error messages. "Read every error message" but yet "I've never figured out what this one means, ignore it" Shaking my damn head. I know how to run a computer. But if what I run is a computer then this is the Lego built equivalent. Rubbish. Rubbish. Pure rubbish. I'm scared my eyes will fall out of my head because they roll back into my head so hard so often that I think they'll pop free of their sockets... And their is two delete keys? Wtf is that monkey business? One says delete and one says backspace! Isn't that the same thing?!?! Last time I wept this much was when my good friend Jennifer died in her sleep. Really. Literally. I weep. I weep for humanity. I weep for my sanity. I now understand why they all smoke cigarettes and I wouldn't doubt if they all drink obsessively. Because I feel like I should start (not really but I may need to start pounding aspirin or chewing it like candy)

Anyway. Pray for me. I need all the help I can get. I could easily do this on a Macintosh. I really could. It's much visually easier to understand. I've got seventeen more days of training to catch on then 21 days of coached on the job practice before they throw me to the wolves.

Oh. And if you call Sprint for anything, be forewarned that they will try to get to you add a line of service.. Why anyone would want another one of they don't already have it I don't understand but it's the way it is.

Enjoy your day.
