Well, you should "Allow Full Access" for Swype anyway.
Not sure what the problem could have been before iOS 8.

It was Swype. It just worked again. This has been a problem since before Swype, though.Julie

Someone suggested it might be trying to connect to a Bluetooth keyboard, but turning off Bluetooth doesn't help. Generally I have to turn off the iPad to get it back. Sometimes if I go into settings and keyboard I can do something like allow full access and then cancel it, and it will then work. This started well before ios 8 and continues through the update. Any ideas? It's really annoying.
