Re: [iPad] Apple releases iOS 8.1.1 with performance improvements for iPad 2 & iPhone 4s, plus bug fixes

Screen Shows a plug indicating I need to plug it into a computer. Very odd.

So every update causes a reboot? Having an atv reboot is not bricking it. Bricking it would be making it into a useless brick.

Believe me I wish I knew. It has always happened during an update. I am so careful not to even touch the remote. The only thing I can think of is a power surge from my TV cable company or my power company. Never seen a brownout when it's happened tho. We are all mystified by it.

How can you often brick your Apple TV? My sister has five and I have 2 and have never seen one bricked.

I updated iPad Air2, iPad Minir! IPhone6 and iPhone5
All fine. I plugged each into a power source first, then updated. I'm going to do a couple of computers today. I probably should do Apple TV but I often brick that device. I have no idea why that happens. I don't touch it or turn it off. It just happens. I think I've bought maybe four apple tvs in as many years.

We all seem to be having different things happpen!  In the meantime, I had the exact same thing happen as you did.  Two newer ones (iPhone 6 plus and Air 2) went through the procedure, the older ones (iPhone 5 and iPad Mini) didn't.  And all of them are working just fine now.  I'd say that's the main thing.  <happy.gif>

I updated four iOS devices yesterday & had to go through that process on the newer ones (iPhone6 & iPad Air 2), but not on the two older devices.  All are operating well after the update.  There were also lengthy updates to Yosemite for Macs & the Apple TV.

I was convinced that in such a short amount of time surely my whole iPhone could hardly need to be completely set up again, but that was still a bit scary!   So I went ahead and configured it, chose a WiFi network to join, etc., and then--big sigh of relief--there was my homepage, complete with all my apps and even a notification!  So if this happens to anybody else, do not despair:  you won't have to re-setup your whole device, you'll just have to do the preliminaries!
