Re: [iPad] Streaming movies ...

Forgot to mention that resetting the router every so often - maybe once a month - and whenever things seem slow and flakey is a very good idea.  Just unplug the power cord, wait five or ten seconds, and plug it in again.  It's a pain, I know.

If you don't mind trying Roku 3 or Apple TV, why not?  All they need are spare HDMI ports on the tv - or, if you can live with the added bit of complexity, one spare port and an HDMI switch.  The speed of your router is fine, but how good is the signal by the time it arrives at the tv?

Alas, all these new options come at the price of some considerable complexity, uncertainty, and failures of reliability.

Have you considered something like a TiVo?  The captioning is already there (included in the video) but is sometimes not synced correctly at its source and nothing can be done about that.

I know this isn't necessarily what this group is for, however, it has been discussed recently.  My husband and I 80 and 83 and are just trying to stream and have started our free month of Netflix.  We are both hard of hearing so use close captioning.  We are streaming through a Blu-ray player (Samsung and Samsung TV) and the captioning has trouble keeping up with the speaking and sometimes drops off completely.  Netflix walked me through a re-boot and it is some better, but I'm wondering if a different streaming device would handle CC better ... perhaps Roku or Apple.

Does anyone have any experience along this line that could be of any help?  Sure would appreciate it.  We have a dual band NetGear router and our Comcast speed is download 33.91 Mbps, upload 5.74 Mbps, if that helps.  Thanks ........

Also, is the captioning already there on the video or movie and the streaming device grabs it, or ???  Not sure where it comes from for sure.
