Re: [iPad] POP/IMAP

Well, it's evident that you didn't run the servers that I use.

Nonsense. I've run a great many different mail servers over the years. There is an inherent incompatibility between POP and IMAP. The  POP protocol for example does not have any way to indicate transfer of mail between folders so any message marking cannot be communicated between client and server.

Trying to access the same server using IMAP and POP will *inevitably* screw up your mailbox, over time.
I've seen it happen over and over and over again. It's a REALLY bad idea.

You're are assuming that all email services work the same way.  They don't.

If you are accessing the same 'mailstore' using POP on your laptop and
IMAP on your mini, it will eventually get screwed up.

POP will download messages , confusing the IMAP server as to where
they have gone. IMAP will put messages into folders that the POP
server won't know about. The counters for which messages have been
read or downloaded won't stay in sync. etc, etc.

If you're going to use IMAP on the mini, I suggest switching the
laptop to IMAP. Then, move any saved messages into either IMAP folders
or local folders.
