IMO David, if Apple had several iPhone sizes, lowered the price and quality of Macs, opened up the ecosystem, its goodbye to Apple. They then become a Microsoft/PC identical alternative, with no differentiation.
Be nice if there was a base spec MP Air or MBP, just to make it a little easier to get into, as unlike a smartphone, you cannot get one on low outlay with a contract. MBP are really nice but for me to buy a coffee table laptop to replace my 15.6" Wintel one, I end up buying a gaiming spec model with a gaming spec price. I could get an Air but I dont want an 11 or 13 screen.

That's certainly a pretty good interpretation as I see it, also.
However, it says nothing about just what Cook has confidence in himself
to actually do -- will he be able to keep the stock prices above market
average and maintain the special nature of Apple products or will he
feel the need to lead the company into stronger competition in the
marketplace, diluting the company's product offerings by coming out with
the several different size iPhones, by lowering the price (and the
quality) of Mac computers, opening up the Mac ecosystem to make it more
robust in comparison to the Windows world and the Android world?
Only time will tell just what sort of confidence Cook feels.
