A moderate outside antenna is not that expensive if self-installed and should work well for that mileage…. Assuming there is not a mountain range in the way.  According to what I found on the Internet for the original poster’s area,  the stations are pretty much all UHF  which makes for much smaller and higher gain design.

I got that same impression but trying to get a signal from a transmitting tower 56 miles away might be a complete waste of money. If they live at the top of a hill it might be possible.
