Re: [iPad] Screen orientation & Apple TV question

A house rabbit? You mean a rabbit that runs arou d the house instead of staying in a cage? Can you potty train a rabbit?

You have not seen "chewed" cables until you have a house rabbit. Cables and cords are a delicious fascination to a rabbit so all cords here are well protected or certain rooms are off limit! ;D

OK......the prize goes to Chris I believe.............

This morning I was finally able to check out the HDMI cable by taking the one from my DVD player and using it on the Apple TV.......and.......Viola!!!!  All is well..........I suspect the real culprit is one of my 3 cats who has a penchant for chewing on cords......there are teeth marks all over the cable but none that appear to have penetrated to the wires inside but they must be damaged inside enough to cause the lack of a stable connection.

It has taken me a while to check all this since I had hand surgery on  the 10th and have had a huge bandage immobilizing my dominant hand on until Monday afternoon.  It is hard to plug & unplug cables in tight spots with a club covering all but the fingers of your dominant hand.   Now I have a removable splint so I can shower, etc but I have to wear it otherwise for the next 4 weeks and then I start rehab........in the meantime I cannot use my thumb to pinch at all and have limited use of my hand.........

I want to thank all of you for your time and effort to help me figure this out...........typing is limited so I will not try to thank everyone individually, but I want you all to know I really do appreciate all the information you supplied have all supplied.........

Lynn

I thought OP said that the ATV screen saver was working-would that not indicate it is connecting to the TV correctly?

Better quality hdmi? If it meets spec it meets spec. No longer do monster cables and the price tags matter.   But swapping an existing one is a good idea.

Kris, you had it right before. "The searching for signal" is an input problem related to the HDMI. It might be a bad cable, wrong setting on the TV, or the ATV itself. I'm betting a better quality HDMI cable will fix the problem. Lynn can also try just disconnecting and reconnecting the HDMI cable connected to her TV or swapping it with the one used by the Bluray player.

I've had good luck with the following HDMI cables:

Oh. Ok

On Apple TV can you connect to Netflix or apple movie trailers or anything?

No? Try an Ethernet cable. Yes this is what apple support suggests

Yes, I can access and use Netflix from my BluRay DVD
player but I cannot even get the ATV to stay connected to
restore it to original settings or to check for updates,
let alone watch a movie on Netflix. And I want to be able
to use AirPlay and watch things that are on my computer on
the TV.........
