I don't even have vlc and from the download page I don't want it. The issue is that iTunes will not load a QuickTime video into the iPad if it thinks it will not play even though it will. Videos with high resolution with H.264 encoding load but are Very large files whereas if MPEG-4 format is used the files are ripped a lot faster (40 - 180 fps) and are about one fifth the size however iTunes will not load them into the iPad unless you rename it to another already loaded file in the media library and copy it over again.
