[iPad] Mail question

I’ve had my iPad for a while but still have questions about my email accounts. I have a default Yahoo smtp account but also have a Gmail imap account. On my computer I use Outlook 2010 and everything was syncing fine between Gmail and my Yahoo account. Once in a while a message will hang up in Outlook or bounce back even though it’s a good address and I’ll go online and send it from my Gmail account with no problem. And then somewhere I read about the advantages of Microsoft Exchange and so I set up my Gmail account via Microsoft Exchange on my iPad. I’m thinking about making my Gmail account my default account. But, on Outlook or on the iPad (a similar view) I see an Inbox (underneath the xxxx@gmail.com account) and also a [Gmail] folder as follows:

Why do I have the 1st folder with 13,553 msg and then the [Gmail] All Mail folder, etc.? If you add up all the numbers they don’t add up to 14,287.  I’m guessing the [Gmail] folder is because of the Gmail imap account because when I tried to delete one of it’s folders that’s what it said.

Bottom line is I would like to be able to delete a message from my computer and have it also deleted from the iPad and vice versa. And I want to sync my email, contacts and calendars with Google and with my iPad.

Can someone explain how I should set this up to accomplish my goals?
