I assume that your question refers to the iPod Touch and not the other iPod models. It's hard to answer your question, because the iPad runs the same iOS operating system that the iPod Touch does, and will run the same applications that the iPod Touch does. But the larger screen makes all the difference in the world. And several apps originally written for the iPod Touch and iPhone have been modified to make use of the larger screen. On the iPad. In addition, some applications have been written for the iPad from the ground up.
While I'm not in the market for a new talet any time soon, I have taken a look at some of the tablets w i th the seven inch diagonal screen. Personally, I'm not impressed with that screen size. It's just a little too small for me. Of course, your mileage may vary.
In terms of applications, I have one that allows me to u se the iPad as a throttle for my model railroad. Others I use are aimed at navigation (the TomTom app for the iPhone works quite well on the iPad), CAD, and some photograph touchup. It's quite a versatile machine. I don't know if Apple really realized it's full potential when they introduced it last year.
