With various apps available, you can do all that you wish with the iPad.

What I do with mine is I use it as an electronic music stand (just
played a concert Saturday evening and it worked like a charm), I play
lots of games on it (sudoku, crossword puzzles, Angry Birds and lots
more), I read books (BAM app is a terrific app for reading DRM ePub
books as well as other formats), I use Symphony Pro to write music, I
have several different sequencer apps so I can simply play music with
the iPad (makes it so easy to work on ideas while not at home and not
needing to lug along my notebook).

I think it will be a long time before the new tablets come close to the
variety of apps that the iTunes store has available for the iPad.
