I would guess these are the same people who think it is "fun" to attempt to break into security systems for banks, the government, etc.  Of course defeating cell phone security is unlikely to earn you a visit from the cops or the FBI.  After all, they are only attacking the data security of millions of individuals.  (Can you tell I'm not sympathetic to their idea of fun?)
