Tks Chris. If I go this way, my Mini will connect via ethernet, that will give me AC speeds to it and the hard drive attached to it.

Correct. That's my set up. Err was when I had a separate monitor. The Apple TV connects to the TV with a cable and to the mini wirelessly and my mini was attached to a few HDDs that had all me media.

so while the ATV does not accept attachable hard drives , you can connect it to a Mac, and it will play what on the Mac (and attached to Mac) ?
