You can change that behavior in the settings app in notifications I do believe.

I'm used to the red numbered indicator appearing on the AppStore app, showing that there are updates, but I just realised yesterday it's been a while since I have seen that. I went into the app, and up popped 5 updates.

Auto app update is on in settings, anyone else noticed this?
