I had the feeling that the Microsoft sales people didn't have a firm grip on what they were supposed to be doing there.

Apple sells boxes. Things. Many times more displayable than boxes of software. Two different compnies in different markets in IT, and different reasons to have a storefront

Or it could be just anti MS?

Cincinnati has
both Apple and Microsoft stores within a stone's throw
of each other in the same mall. When I've been there,
the Microsoft store feels like Radio Shack. Apple is
bustling with sales folk everywhere; Microsoft is
do-it-yourself.
