You obviously want more protection, but I have the iPad Air and the mini retina and both are in Apple smart covers which makes them so easy to pop in a purse. And,I got AppleCare so if there is a mishap, I can get it replaced for $49@.
My son had children, so his are all in Otter cases and he loves them.
