Crows are quite smart in the bird group. 30 years ago I read a report of a study where people hid in some bushes after walking across a field and then left one at a time. They found that the crows could keep track of how many people went into hiding up to 10, and would return to the field after the last person had left.
My Parrot would hang up side down on the bottom of his cage and squawk and flap his wings until the dogs would come and bark, then he'd climb up and sit on top and say "good bird" looking totally innocent.
