Not sure what you mean by a winter freeze. I live pretty smack dab in the middle of the state. Temp can drop here to 28F for a couple of hours, then back up to 65-75F during the day. We grow tomatoes and strawberries in January, so for that rare "freeze," farmers turn on sprinklers.
I don't own a winter coat, but there are nights that I wear a heavy sweater.
We turn on the heat a few times during the winter but mostly run a/c.
In my 27 years here, we had 4 hurricanes one year and damage from a tree falling on the house. No other storms have caused damage in my area. More problems on the coast.
Rains a lot of days during the summer, but only for awhile, mostly sunny.

The center of the state is the best place to be during a hurricane but you will get a winter freeze. Summer squalls do have hurricane winds but that only lasts about an hour. That happens everywhere in FL.
