Instead of doing a full reboot, next time try going the the Apple Menu > Force Quit… > Then choose "Finder". This will force the Finder to relaunch, without having to fully reboot.

I have 2011 21" iMac with 8GB Memory. The beach ball has been an

rebooted.
I have reinstalled the iOS and it is less frequent but ever present.
Now it beach balls while at the desktop and it hangs until a reboot.
I have to reboot the iMac at least once a month.> Carl, I seem to remember from U*x days that apps don't hang entire systems. If Mac OS is U*x, how can one app mess up the entire running system?
