You can do anything you want.

But, different Apple IDs means access to different music/apps/books. If I really had to use iCloud backup, I'd probably pay for the additional storage. But I don't, so I use iTunes backup.

No, I do not..   My birding field manuals take a LOT of room. No one answered my question as to whether I can use a different apple ID to back up phone and another to back up iPad, which I use with the main Apple ID..  However, I had to go to the genius bar today because of battery problem with my new phone and he said I could do that. They gave me a new phone, which I restored from computer backup that I did this morning. ... Millie
