I just got an iMac and didn't get an anti-virus program. On my PC, I have had various Norton programs, McAfee, and Kaspersky and hated them all. I occasionally used the free Malwarebytes and liked it but never had the paid version up and running. I found them virus programs negatively affected the performance and speed of all my PCs. I really hope that I don't need to get one for the iMac but would hate to mess things up.
So how do I know if something is a risk to the computer? I have been stopped by Norton etc. from certain websites which risked downloading malware, and I have been sent attachments by friends that Norton said contained a virus and it turned out the friend had been hacked.
Thoughts?

How do I know I have none? Simple. None exists.
