I got a hairline crack at the top right of my iPhone 6 Plus, which is still in its second year of Apple Care. I brought it in to the Apple Store, they told me they would fix it. As I hadn't made an appointment, they apologized profusely for 'only' being able to let me have it three hours later.
Note that the iPhone was not even purchased from Apple.
For a 6-month old iPad's screen, I think you should be able to expect the same. Good luck.
