Re: [iPad] OT - looking for Kindle suggestions

I think "send to kindle" also does this - convert Pdf's. It's Amazon's program.

Reading on a kindle is very nice, much like reading a "dead tree" book. However, keep in mind that if you are reading pdfs, you will not be able to make the text larger like you do a regular book designed for the kindle. The pdfs come over something like an image file. My info could be a little out of date as i haven't done this in a while, but as far as I know this is still the case. The pdf will be reduced so that the text fits across the screen, though you will possibly be able to read it in landscape. You could of course make the pdf have large text to start with. A better option, though would be to convert your document into a kindle compatible file, which is easy to do. There is a program available for free that allows you to do that as well as manage your books.
With the kindle you can also set up folders and keep your books sorted which is nice.
As someone said, though, if you don't like it you can return it. Kindle customer service (not the same as regular Amazon customer service) is the best in the business, at least the last I heard.

Please excuse the off topic post but I suspect this is the best place to get the best replies to my question.

I like to sit in the sun and read. I have great difficulty with my iOS devices. My understanding is that the Kindle Paperwhite, and two more expensive models work well in bright light.

My requirements are simple:

Good screen resolution. The readers that I have seen in person at Staples and Best Buy do not have good screen resolution. Hence, I did not buy. I am happy with the screen resolution of my iPad mini 2 and my iPhone 6+.

I am not interested in the thousands of books offered by Amazon and others. I will probably get a few books but most of what I want to read will be made into PDF files by me and transferred to the Kindle.

I am not overly concerned with having the longest battery life as I can charge it every day.

The paperwhite is $120; the Voyage is $200 and the Oasis is $290. I am willing to spend the money for the Oasis if it is really that much better. It has the same resolution as the Voyage. I have not had any of these in my hand so it will be a blind buy other than what I learn here.

Thanks,

Bobby
