Thanks! Major stuff.
So, despite the apparent fact (see the responses to the article) that only some USB devices are affected, we all need to assume that the USB devices we hold in our hands are infected.
What's needed, I suppose, is a checker device into which we can plug the USB dongle that we want to plug into our USB port. The routine then would be: you hand your dongle to me, and I plug it into my checker; if it passes, I plug it into my whatever, but if it fails, I hand it back to you. No way to "clean" the dongle.
In the absence of such a checker machine, I either refuse to use all USB dongles or I use them but immediately run a full security check on my whatever, which will render my whatever useless for several hours.
This could lead to users dropping USB like a hot potato or to a complete USB redesign, from the ground floor up.
~KLM\\ "Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing." ~Helen Keller //
