That seems to be the downside of Handoff. It requires Apple devices.

I dont think so. As far as I know it only works with your iPhone, your iPad, and your OSX computers. Its like Continuity, the value is a call, SMS, iMessage, photo edit, Safari websurf, etc, etc, is not tied to any one device, you can use any of them. We used to own 4 devices. If we wanted to go from iPhone to iPad, we pickup the iPad then manually navigate to the webpage, we want. Or the photo album we are looking through. Or Message we want to reply to. Handoff and Continuity allow us to treat our 4 Apple devices as one device, in 4 form factors. Move from one to the other, one upward swipe allows you to pickup where you left off.Not a calling system but a very very nuice innovatice approach to increasing the ease of using many devices to do one task. From: "Pete petefromflorida@gmail.com [iPad]" <iPad@yahoogroups.com>

Handoff appears to be an attempt to copy what GV does seamlessly between ANY phones including landlines.
PeteIf GV is a version of Handoff, its not a calling system like Skype, so no need for payments or credits. It must be an extension system like Handoff. In Handoff the iPhone makes/recives ALL of the calls/SMS, the other devices are just wireless speakers and microphones. The trick is the seamlessness, allowing you to easily recieve and make a callFrom: "Just Murray krismurray@gmail.com [iPad]" <iPad@yahoogroups.com>

Can you call without credits? I haven't tried yet but I am curious (and too lazy to look up the answer)~KLM\\ "Security is mostly a superstition. GV's 9 year old version of Handoff for phone calls can't be beat.
PeteIos8 to ios8??? Meh oh well I don't text using iMessage anymore anyway. I actually don't know that many people that I text. And when I do I use google voice.~KLM\\ "Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. The video option in text messages is great fun. Love it. Fabulous for people that might need to text while driving. Works beautifully in iPads as well as iPhones
