No. It's either or. Or hit edit and select a bunch.  I prefer that as soon as her read a message or see it's preview that I dragged from the right to the left

I have many thousands of mail messages on my iPhone and iPad. Will they automatically be deleted after awhile? If not how do I get rid of them. They are marked as read.
