Re: [iPad] Rival music services say Apple's App Store pricing is anticompetitive | The Verge

Yep, whether there is coercion is in doubt, but if they artificially increase the price, thats antio competitive, although the buyer can choose not to buy. But a call to Spotify wont get you a subscription app, or could u get the free app and log in to get the paid version? I doubt Apple would allow that. I se eit that Appke wbnat to artifucailly incresae the price, which essentually would be wholesale plus margin plus Apple margin,  Spotify could increase by $1, Apple decrease margin by a $1 and each live with that. Or Spotify ceases to go onto iOS, or it does and consumers pay extra. Best to give iOS users a website version. Its a conflict of interest, Apple wnats us to buy Beats not Spotify

Hrm. Here we disagree. It's apple's ecosystem that they built from the ground up. In my opinion they can charge whatever they wish as long as they do not conspire with other companies to lock other people out which is what at least one article was inferring. I'm okay with the charging but but the coercion. I am also okay with the sprint telephone company charging whatever they want and there too as long as they don't conspire with other companies to keep the services high unnaturally.

Now. That said. Is it possible for me to go to www.spotify.com or call their toll free number and sign up for their paid service and then giro my phone and get the app and the service? Without Apple taking a cut? If so that seems like a small hurdle to overcome.

Yep. The app store sells apps that devs write and takes a 30% cut, no issue with that. But they do that with subscriptions as well
and disallow an external buy event from the app, therefore double dipping on the margin for subscriptions
