Re: [iPad] Re: What's with the "Not charging"?

I've been using APC UPS's for about 3 years with 3 different computers that stay on all around th clock.  So far I've never had any problems.  Power isn't good where I live and I began using them because I was losing too much stuff.  I haven't lost anything since.  So I feel like I'm getting good protection.
There are two common types of UPS; those that regulate the city power to provide a clean output and have a standby battery when needed.  These, as I understand it, need (and have) voltage regulation as well as other safety features to clean the power that comes to the output.
The other type is an isolating UPS.  The battery always provides the output power. City power only charges the battery so voltage regulation has no effect on th output since battery output is constant.  This is the kind I bought and linked to.
I should make it clear that I'm no engineer and I'm not at all qualified to say much of anything about the qualities of a UPS.  The information above is from reading about it on the web and on APC's site and from a conversation I had with an APC engineer when I was first looking into buying a UPS.  Also, many years ago I had to learn about protection from power problems for customers when I was working as a consultant.
My background isn't in electronics.  I'm a retired systems programmer.  But I do enjoy reading about how things work and since I'm retired I have the time to do some of that reading these days.
Anyway, that's my disclaimer.  :)
Like me, I'm sure you'll set your systems up in the way that makes you comfortable.
