I remember Gamecenter too but it has disappeared from iOS 10. It was, so the blurb goes, a chance for connecting with other players, to compare scores, etc. It is accessible via Settings now, instead of having its own icon on the desktop. My games were purchased from such bodies as Big Fish Games, as well as the iTunes Store and individual vendors, so not part of the "center" as such.
