It would depend on the 10 yr. old. My 10 yr. old granddaughter would take care of it. She had her first desktop computer at 3, her first laptop at 5, and has always taken care of her electronics. BTW, the only reason I'm not buying her an iPad is that her parents are thinking of getting her one. On the other hand, my 17 yr. old granddaughter would break it right away. She's an athlete and a scholar but is a slob with her room. Her netbook was on the floor, covered with clothes and was stepped on, cracking the screen. Luckily it still works. I'd love to get her an iPad but think I will wait til she goes off to college next year. LOLJackieIn a message dated 11/26/2010 4:01:01 P.M. I would get her a cheapo lap top first, there is a good chance the ipad wont make it throught the first month with a preteen, they just don't get the whole "fraqile electronic" thingy yet, at that age.
I personally think its too fragile for a 10 yr old.
I have the defender case and it is great.
Get a screen protector as well, to prevent soda, snot and gummy bear build up.
but I think a cheap lap top would be better, and of more use, until she breaks her first computer.
I can just imagine what the screen is going to look like after a few weeks. :-))
What a nice grandparent you are.
