I also ha. MobileMe delete stuff when I didn't know how to configure it to sync between mac, cloud and iPhone.
I suggest you do as I did. I set up an appt at the Genius bar and they will help you and explain how it all works.
Now that I realized what I was doing wrong, it works fine.
