I rarely receive any spam on gmail.
You may have given that addy to too many places.
You might want to create a new one and let the old one become your spam account.
When I am asked for an addy, I consider the requester and give one of several spares. A couple have been set up to forward to either my Y! or one of my gmail accounts.
