Yea I think think it require that for Apple Pay. 10,000 combinations with 4 numbers isnt secure. Or so goes the logic.  1 million represented by 6 digits is more secure. Or so goes the logic. 

Perhaps in the set up frustration it asked you for 6. In frustrating you wanted. In haste you don't recall it happening.  POSSIBLY?
