Dear Apple, please can I have something simple?
CNETCommentary: On the eve of WWDC, will Apple present something that will make our lives easier? Or does it expect us to learn ever more complicated technology? Read the full story
I kinda like the complexity. A year ago, I had Micro Center build me a PC. Last week,
they upgraded it with a new graphics card, a big ssd, and more ddr3. I wanted it to read 4K Blu-Ray discs, but research showed that it's too early for that - too much stuff is still bubbling: HDCP 2.2, HDMI, Intel and its Kaby Lake processors, UHD drive manufacturers that may or may not be exporting to the US. OK, I'll wait a year, then probably upgrade the motherboard to one that takes ddr4 memory, add the 4K drive, buy the 34" monitor with HDCP 2.whatever, and dive into the next generation of Vive or Oculus, with, hopefully, no wires and much better resolution. Apple can't do that stuff. Won't do it. Which is a shame. Maybe they'll even leave the personal computer business altogether.
But I do not want all that uncertainty on my iPhone, iPad, iPod, or Apple TV. I want them to just work right every time, simply, intuitively. The author's right - they're getting cluttered.
