I use the pure 100% DEET when they get thick and otherwise I have a mix of DEET and Skin So Soft lotion which does the trick. The 100% DEET and even my mix makes my skin warm. I don't like that feeling but I do like the protection.

Yes DEET is a must. Many creams sold as repellents contain it. Look on the label, if it doesn't contain DEET look for one that does.

Both were in constant use. But I think thru just used OFF brand. I personally take 100% DEET and mix it in Skin So Soft lotion. For some reason Skin So Soft repels mosquitos but I like the added protection of DEET.
