Costa Rica is hugely expensive. The most expensive in all of Central America by far. When compared to the minimum wage of $10 per day it is THE SECOND MOST EXPENSIVE country in the world. When comparing food costs to minimum income. It is easy to spend $24 at the store for a couple meals that you prepare at home. That's 2.5 days wages for a days food. Most people don't eat very much at least out here. I constantly feed many of my local friends. Just some rice and chicken so on that day they get a meal.

But. That aside. Yes. There is a huge umma grant society driving up costs. Italians are thick here in Puerto Viejo. Americans not so much. Mostly Europeans, heavily Italian. Most Americans goto the pacific side die specifically Jaco.
