Hi Sue:
One thing I would consider is the size, if he will be carrying it back and forth to school. The Air does a lot and isn't as unwieldy in size as the Pro. However, if he wants someone almost computer size, the Pro would be a good choice.

My grandson is in the market for a new iPad. He has the original one. He's 12, very responsible, and needs one for school for his dyslexic apps. Recommendations: Air or Baby Pro???
