Re: [iPad] Will Apple's New Patent Push Delete on Ability to Record Police? | ACLU of Northern California

From what I've heard and read the bands make the majority of their money playing live not selling songs. So the chance that someone could watch a crappy far away video could be detrimental in their eyes but in mine it would allow me to see if they were a fun concert. An iPhone video from the crowd is no substitute for the real deal imo

Possibly Adele, she had a very recent small rant on stage about filming in concerts

One article I read said the intent was to stop people from filming concerts, but I don't recall where I read that.

Could this be used to stop you from taking a selfie in a Disney movie or at Disney land?

Imagine: You pull out your phone to record police misconduct—suddenly, your camera just doesn't work. Turns out, your phone's camera has been disabled by an infrared emitter.

Imagine: Samsung wants to add this misfeature to their phones, but cannot, because Apple won't let them use their (Apple's) patent, even though Apple has no intention of using it themselves.

So, its a mis feature. Apple has it, a mis feature? Im lost.. Caught between feature comparison and fan boyism

You're not paying attention.

There's no problem with inventing the technique, or patenting it. There are both upsides and downsides to implementing it.

Allowing such a technique to be implemented and thereby allowing people who should NOT be able to prevent recording to do so would be a misfeature.

Patenting the technique can prevent at least non-governmental entities from using it.
