Re: [iPad] Will Apple's New Patent Push Delete on Ability to Record Police? | ACLU of Northern California

Imagine: You pull out your phone to record police misconduct—suddenly, your camera just doesn't work. Turns out, your phone's camera has been disabled by an infrared emitter.

Imagine: Samsung wants to add this misfeature to their phones, but cannot, because Apple won't let them use their (Apple's) patent, even though Apple has no intention of using it themselves.

Lotta police misconduct in your neighborhood, Jim?

None that I am aware of (but I live in farm country). I have no idea why you would draw that conclusion from my statement.

I just wanted to point out the 2 contrasting reasons for patenting an invention: to give the patent holder exclusive rights to use, or sell, the technology … or to prevent others from doing the same.
